Health and Human Performance Advisory Board

Grizelle “GiGi” Auguste, MS, ATC, LAT

Grizelle is currently the Physician’s Practice Clinical Operations Manager at Baptist Health South Florida in Miami, FL. She was previously Supervisor of Sports Medicine and Outreach. She has also served as Head Athletic Trainer for the Women’s National Team of the US Soccer Federation, Head Athletic Trainer/Instructor at Florida International University, Athletic Trainer for the United States Soccer Federation, and Head Athletic Trainer for the Fort Lauderdale Thundercats of the National Professional Soccer League. Grizelle has a Master’s of Science in Sports Management from Florida International University and a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sport Science from the University of Florida. She is certified as an athletic trainer through the BOC, Inc. and licensed in Florida.

 

Pete Bommarito MS CSCS USAW

Pete is the owner and president of Bommarito Performance Systems (BPS), which is regarded around the world as a leading information source and training resource in the industry. The concept behind Bommarito Performance System is to provide the latest application methods based on the scientific principles outlined in current research. He is regarded as one of the top coaches in the industry for his innovative, scientifically based approach to sport specific training. He has brought his nationally recognized expertise to the team of Bommarito Performance Systems, where he is directly responsible for developing all protocols and implementing all programming. The Advisory board for the performance, nutrition, and medical fields that he has implemented provides the scientific basis from some of the most recognized and accomplished sources in the world. Pete and his staff train hundreds of professional athletes and thousands of youth / high school / collegiate athletes and general fitness clients each year. BPS implements its system with all clients at all levels with small group training, large and small team training, personal training, and general consulting. BPS has facilities in North Miami Beach, FL; Davie, FL; and is partnered with the prestigious Carlos Guillen Baseball Academy in Venezuela.

Wayne Diesel, PhD

Wayne is currently the Sports Performance Director for the Miami Dolphins in Miami, FL. He was previously Head of Medical Services for the Tottenham Hotspur Football Club and the Charlton Athletic Football Club, both located in the United Kingdom. He also served as Head Physiotherapist for the Gloucester Rugby Football Club, Director and Lead Physiotherapist of the Sport Science Institute of South Africa, and in a couple of roles as a Physiotherapist in Johannesburg, SA. He has a PhD in Exercise Physiology, a BSc in Sport Science, and a BSc in Physiotherapy, all from South Africa.

Marilyn Gordon, EdD, RDN, CSSD, LDN

Marilyn is currently a Nutritionist in the Division of Clinical Operations at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL. She also serves a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Nutrition programs as well as Adjunct Assistant Professor in Public Health all in the Dr. Kiran Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine. She is also an Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Health and Human Performance. She was previously a Clinical Dietitian for a couple of organizations. Marilyn has an EdD in Higher Education from Florida International University, a MS in Exercise Science from Florida Atlantic University, a BS in Dietetics and Nutrition from Florida International University, and an AA from Miami-Dade Community College. She is a licensed dietitian nutritionist in the State of Florida, a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist from The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and a Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics.

 

Steven Orris, MS, CSCCa, CISSN, CES, USAW, CSCS

Steve is currently the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Performance and Student-Athlete Wellness at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL. He also serves as an Adjunct Instructor in the Department of Health and Human Performance at Nova Southeastern University and Camp Director for SOAR Athletics, LLC. He was previously at University of Florida where he worked with Women’s Basketball, Softball, Baseball, and Football. He has an MS in Health Education from Hofstra University and a BS in Exercise Science from Florida Atlantic University. He is a Master Strength and Conditioning Coach through the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association, a Certified Sports Nutritionist through the International Society for Sports Nutrition, a Corrective Exercise Specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine, a Sports Performance Coach through USA Weightlifting, and a Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

Arlene Semeco, MS, LDN, RD, CISSN

Arlene is a Clinical Nutritionist for HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital, provides Sports Nutrition Consulting through Arlene Semeco Nutrition Consulting, and writes and edits articles for AuthorityNutrition.com. She has previously worked with Chaban Wellness, Miami Research Associates, and The Biostation. She has a MS in Dietetics and Nutrition from Florida International University, a BS in Food and Human Nutrition and a BS in Human Environmental Sciences both from the University of Alabama. She participated in the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Olympics in Swimming for Venezuela. She is a Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist in the State of Florida, a Registered Dietitian by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and a Certified Sports Nutritionist by the International Society of Sports Nutrition.

Larry Starr, EdD, ATC, LAT, CSCS, USPTA

Larry is an Athletic Trainer and Strength and Conditioning Specialist for Starr Athletic Solutions, LLC in Coral Springs, FL. He also serves as an Injury Spotter for the National Football League, an Athletic Trainer for the United States Tennis Association and Major League Soccer Combine, and a Medical Observer for the Atlantic Coast Conference. He was previously the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine at Nova Southeastern University, Head Athletic Trainer for the Florida Marlins, Head Athletic Trainer for the Cincinnati Reds, Assistant Athletic Trainer and Assistant Instructor at Ohio University. Larry is a Hall of Famer in the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, Nova Southeastern University Athletics, and Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society. He has a EdD in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University, a MEd and BSEd both from Ohio University. He is a Certified Member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, a Licensed Athletic Trainer in Florida and Ohio, and has a CSCS from the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

Frank Walters, PhD, LAT, ATC

Frank is an Injury Spotter for the National Football League, an adjunct faculty for the Department of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine at the University of South Florida, the Department of Exercise Science and Health Promotion at Florida Atlantic University, and the Department of Health and Human Performance at Nova Southeastern University. He is the former Director of Sports Medicine at Broward Health, Coordinator of Athletic Health Care Services in the District of Columbia Public Schools and Lecturer then Assistant Professor in Health and Physical Education at Texas A & M University. He was also Head Athletic Trainer and Instructor at Prairie View A & M University as well as Teacher/Athletic Trainer at a couple of high schools in Texas. Frank has a PhD from Texas A & M University in Physical Education, a MS in Athletic Training and Physical Education from Indiana State University, and a BS in Physical Education from Brooklyn College. He is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, the NATA Hall of Fame, and Southwest Athletic Trainers’ Association Hall of Fame.

David Westerdahl, MD, FAAFP, RMSK

David is a Physician with Cleveland Clinic Florida Department of Orthopedics. He also serves as a Team Physician for the Florida Panthers, Medical Director of the A1A Marathon, Team Physician for The Sagemont School, and Executive Director in Florida for The Players Trust.   He serves in a variety of additional clinical and administrative roles with the Cleveland Clinic. David is a Fellow of the American Board of Family Practice, has an MD from Loma Linda University, and a BA in Business Administration from Washington State University. He completed a Family Practice Residency at Florida Hospital in Orlando, FL and a Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at Cleveland Clinic Foundation Sports Health in Cleveland, OH.

Rob Wildman, PhD, RD, LD, FISSN

Rob is the Chief Science Officer – Post Active Nutrition Group for Post Holdings. He is Chair for Nutrition, Metabolism, and Body Composition for the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Chair of the Sports Nutrition Committee of the AHPA, Founder of the International Protein Board, and on the Advisory Board of the International Society of Sports Nutrition. He has a PhD in Human Nutrition from The Ohio State University, and MS in Food and Nutrition from Florida State University, and a BS in Clinical Dietetics and Nutrition from the University of Pittsburgh.
