Health and Human Performance Advisory Board

Chris Algieri, MS

Chris is a Professional Boxer, Sports Nutritionist, and Author and is self-employed. He has a Master’s of Science in Clinical Nutrition at the New York Institute of Technology. He also has a Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Sciences at Stony Brook University.

Katie Dabrowski, DPT, CSCS

Dr. Katie Dabrowski, DPT, CSCS is a physical therapist and strength coach whose passion for disrupting the traditional model of physical therapy led her to Old Bull Athletics to create a 100% individualized, one-on-one treatment model that meets patients where they fall along the spectrum of wellness: preparedness, performance, recovery, or injury rehabilitation. Her undergraduate studies in psychology and neuroscience at Nova Southeastern University were accompanied by extensive involvement in research, a Divisional Honors Thesis comparing the effects of brain training games and physical exercise on executive function, and being a part of the rowing team. She earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy at the University of Miami and further explored research across the spectrum of exercise science and neuroscience. 

Dr. Dabrowski is also a neuroscience faculty member at Nova Southeastern University, where she teaches coursework blending the fields of exercise science and neuroscience. She also serves as an Advisory Board Member for the Society for Sport Neuroscience, has published works ranging from original research to textbook chapters, and is co-founder of Gifted Academics, an education company committed to providing high level certification prep materials for certification exams in the strength and conditioning and nutrition fields. 

Her mission is to change healthcare, promoting the notion that training is healthcare, and that rehab is simply training in the presence of injury.

Pete Bommarito MS, CSCS, USAW

Pete is the owner and president of Bommarito Performance Systems (BPS), which is regarded around the world as a leading information source and training resource in the industry. The concept behind Bommarito Performance System is to provide the latest application methods based on the scientific principles outlined in current research. He is regarded as one of the top coaches in the industry for his innovative, scientifically based approach to sport specific training. He has brought his nationally recognized expertise to the team of Bommarito Performance Systems, where he is directly responsible for developing all protocols and implementing all programming. The Advisory board for the performance, nutrition, and medical fields that he has implemented provides the scientific basis from some of the most recognized and accomplished sources in the world. Pete and his staff train hundreds of professional athletes and thousands of youth / high school / collegiate athletes and general fitness clients each year. BPS implements its system with all clients at all levels with small group training, large and small team training, personal training, and general consulting. BPS has facilities in North Miami Beach, FL; Davie, FL; and is partnered with the prestigious Carlos Guillen Baseball Academy in Venezuela.

Marilyn Gordon, EdD, RDN, CSSD, LDN

Marilyn is currently a Nutritionist in the Division of Clinical Operations at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL. She also serves a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Nutrition programs as well as Adjunct Assistant Professor in Public Health all in the Dr. Kiran Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine. She is also an Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Health and Human Performance. She was previously a Clinical Dietitian for a couple of organizations. Marilyn has an EdD in Higher Education from Florida International University, a MS in Exercise Science from Florida Atlantic University, a BS in Dietetics and Nutrition from Florida International University, and an AA from Miami-Dade Community College. She is a licensed dietitian nutritionist in the State of Florida, a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist from The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and a Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics.

Dr. Duncan French

Globally recognized as a leading expert in high performance sport, Duncan has 24 years of experience working with elite professional and Olympic athletes.  Presently, Duncan is the Vice President of Performance for the UFC Performance Institute. He is responsible for directing performance interfaces to approx. 600 UFC fighters globally, as well as managing two state-of-the-art high performance facilitates in Las Vegas and Shanghai.  Prior to joining the UFC, Duncan was the Director of Performance Sciences at the University of Notre Dame. Before residing in the USA, Duncan was a Technical Lead for Strength & Conditioning at the English Institute of Sport. He has supported three Olympic cycles and has been the national lead for strength and conditioning to both the Great Britain Basketball and Great Britain Taekwondo teams. Duncan is the former Head of Strength & Conditioning at Newcastle United FC in the English Premier League.  As a strength and conditioning coach Duncan has coached a host of Olympic, World Championship, and Commonwealth Games medalists, as well as world-record holders from a variety of different sports. As a researcher, Duncan has authored or co-authored over 60 peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts and nine book chapters and is the coeditor for the new NSCA Essentials of Sport Science textbook. He was the chairman of the UK Strength & Conditioning Association from 2011-13 and received an Honorary Fellowship in 2014 for his services to the strength and conditioning industry.

Alan Nguyen, DO

Alan serves as the NSU Health and Human Performance Advisory Board alumni member. He is currently a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physician at Larkin Memorial Hospital in South Miami Florida. He holds a Doctor of Osteopathic degree from Nova Southeastern University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise and Sport Science also from NSU. He is also a member of the Society for NeuroSports.

Steven Orris, MS, CSCCa, CISSN, CES, USAW, CSCS

Steve is currently the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Performance and Student-Athlete Wellness at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL. He also serves as an Adjunct Instructor in the Department of Health and Human Performance at Nova Southeastern University and Camp Director for SOAR Athletics, LLC. He was previously at University of Florida where he worked with Women’s Basketball, Softball, Baseball, and Football. He has an MS in Health Education from Hofstra University and a BS in Exercise Science from Florida Atlantic University. He is a Master Strength and Conditioning Coach through the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association, a Certified Sports Nutritionist through the International Society for Sports Nutrition, a Corrective Exercise Specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine, a Sports Performance Coach through USA Weightlifting, and a Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

Rob Wildman, PhD, RD, LD, FISSN

Rob is the Chief Science Officer – Post Active Nutrition Group for Post Holdings. He is Chair for Nutrition, Metabolism, and Body Composition for the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Chair of the Sports Nutrition Committee of the AHPA, Founder of the International Protein Board, and on the Advisory Board of the International Society of Sports Nutrition. He has a PhD in Human Nutrition from The Ohio State University, and MS in Food and Nutrition from Florida State University, and a BS in Clinical Dietetics and Nutrition from the University of Pittsburgh.
