Riva Markowitz was a Broward County Public Schools teacher for 43 years. She taught Deaf elementary school students before teaching American Sign Language (ASL) for foreign language credit to high school students. She retired in 2021. Riva plans to continue to teach ASL as NSU. She is especially proud of her students who have become ASL teachers, audiologists, counselors, educational interpreters, ESE teachers, free-lance interpreters, speech-language pathologists, and teachers of the deaf/hard-of-hearing. Furthermore, she is enjoying her retirement by participating in Zumba and weight classes, deep water fitness classes, walking, and traveling with her wonderful husband, a published fiction author.
