Professor Heather MacDonald joined the Nova Southeastern University PA program faculty in January 2022.
Heather graduated from the University of Florida in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology and Minor in Nutrition. In 2008, she graduated with honors from NSU’s Ft. Lauderdale PA Program, earning a Masters in Medical Science degree. Since graduation, she has specialized in Pediatrics, with a primary focus and passion for Newborn medicine. She started off in Pediatric outpatient general practice & inpatient Newborn Care at Winnie Palmer & Arnold Palmer Hospitals in Orlando, FL, and moved in 2011 to NYC to work both in the Pediatric ICU & Newborn care at New York Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell.
She is a dual USA/UK citizen and in 2016 moved from NYC to London, UK. She taught on the faculty of the Physician Associate Programme at St. George’s University of London for 3 1/2 years. While living in London, she also helped create a local prenatal support group and taught monthly pro-bono prenatal support classes on breastfeeding, CPR & First Aid and What to Expect in the First Year.
After moving back home to South Florida in 2021 to be close to family again, she wanted to continue with teaching PA students and is very excited to be back at NSU!
She loves spending her free time traveling with her husband and daughter (who has already traveled to 5 countries at 3!). She also enjoys long distance running (marathons & ½ marathons), Peloton spin classes & any activity related to the beach.
