In the professional DPT program, Dr. Gaikwad is course leader in PHT 6816: Neuroscience, PHT 6830: Neuromuscular I, PHT 6830L: Neuromuscular I Lab and PHT 6915: Prosthetics and Orthotics and she also teaches, and lab assists in PHT 6914: Neuromuscular II, PHT 6914L: Neuromuscular II Lab, PHT 6725 Cardiovascular, Pulmonary PT and PHT 6722: Integumentary PT. She also teaches Vestibular Rehabilitation Module in Neurologic Physical Therapy Residency Program and serves a mentor for Neuro residents.
Scholarly Activities and Interests
Dr. Gaikwad’s research interests reside in vestibular rehabilitation, chronic motion sickness, balance dysfunction in people with neurologic conditions and student engagement strategies in classroom teaching and learning. Dr. Gaikwad has experience in using investigational research equipment such as Neurocom Balance Master and Bertec's Computerized Dynamic Posturography Immersion Virtual Reality equipment. She has published several peer-reviewed manuscripts and has authored and presented abstracts in national and international conferences. Areas of Practice
After completing her Bachelors in Physiotherapy from India and before moving to the USA, Dr. Gaikwad practiced in Mumbai, India in various setting such as acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient clinic and home health for 6 years with primary focus on Neurologic Physical Therapy. After completing her PhD in Rehabilitation degree from Loma Linda University, California in 2016, Dr. Gaikwad practiced as a clinical physical therapist in skilled nursing facility and acute care settings in New York before joining NSU as full-time faculty member. Dr. Gaikwad continues to maintain her clinical practice by serving as clinical mentor for Neuro residents in Neurologic Physical Therapy Residency program at NSU.
Dr. Gaikwad serves NSU as a member of Curriculum Committee of Professional DPT program and Chair of Education Subcommittee of Faculty Research Committee of Dr. Pallavi Patel College of Health Care Sciences and member of Interprofessional Education Committee of Dr. Pallavi Patel College of Health Care Sciences. She is an item writer for National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) of Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT) and a reviewer for Journal of Neurologic Physical Therapy and Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice. She serves the community through the Annual Mobility Fair, a health screening community service event for people with limb loss in South Florida in collaboration with Hanger Clinic and NSU’s Occupational Therapy department.
