Professor Derek Jackson was born in Coventry, England and moved with his family to Brooklyn, New York at age seven. Professor Jackson is retired United States Air Force. He attended the University of Nebraska Medical Center's (UNMC) PA Program, graduating in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science, and obtained his Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) again from UNMC in 1998. In 2004, Professor Jackson completed another MPAS degree with an emphasis in Forensics from A.T. Still University. He is certified as a Health Education Specialist, and is presently in the dissertation phase of a Doctorate in Health Education from A.T. Still University.
Professor Jackson, during his 27 years of clinical experience, has worked in Family Practice, brief periods in Allergy Medicine and Dermatology, and for the last 15 years Emergency Medicine. He received Mid-Level Practitioner of the year in 2013 from Florida Emergency Physicians Adventist Health System division. Professor Jackson became a full-time faculty member of the Nova Southeastern PA program in Orlando in January 2019.
Professor Jackson and his wife of 33 years have two daughters, Danielle and Brittanie and one grandchild. When not involved in patient care or educational pursuits, Professor Jackson enjoys listening to music (preferably classical or jazz) and traveling with his wife who together have plans of visiting every continent.
