Professor Fernandez joined the faculty of the Physician Assistant Program at Nova Southeastern University’s College of Health Care Sciences in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in June 2017 as an Assistant Professor. She is a native of Miami, Florida and has worked as a Physician Assistant in Family Medicine for 13 years ranging from Pediatric to Geriatric care. She graduated from Florida International University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences. Afterwards, she worked as a Medical Laboratory Technologist where she participated in the integration of the first automated laboratory in South Florida.
Professor Fernandez went on to graduate from Barry University where she earned a Master’s of Medical Science Degree as a Physician Assistant and also received the Excellence of Physical Diagnosis Award during her studies.
Sylvia has a strong belief in giving back to the community. She has served as a clinical preceptor for Barry University and continues to serve as a Clinical Preceptor for Nova Southeastern University’s PA Program.
