Dear Member of the Class of 2019,
It is with great joy and anticipation that I welcome you to the Nova Southeastern University Physician Assistant Program-Fort Myers. Congratulations on your success in your first step towards your ultimate goal of becoming a competent and caring health care professional. Your academic phase will begin with the Orientation session on Thursday, May 18, 2017, at the Holiday Inn Ft. Myers Airport-Town Center; attendance is mandatory. The dress code is business/professional. You are encouraged to invite family members to this event.
On this page you will find important information provided by Ms. Renee San Giacomo, our Coordinator of Admissions. Of prime importance are the medical history, physical examination, and immunization requirements. These requirements must be met before entry into the Program, or shortly thereafter, as you will be coming into contact with patients during the didactic year. Please return these forms, as instructed, as soon as possible so that your transition into the Program will proceed smoothly. Additionally, you will find "Things to Do Before Orientation" on the main orientation page. Please read carefully through the steps outlined there and make sure you complete them prior to coming to orientation on May 18th.
Classes begin on May 22nd. During the first week of classes you will have the opportunity to purchase your medical instruments. If you prefer to purchase them prior to the instrument fair, please see the required instruments form.
The faculty and staff of the Program are committed to providing you with the finest resources and best learning opportunities possible. Attendance Confirmation Form
Please fill in and email the completed Attendance Confirmation Form to Jo Ann Rogers no later than Monday, May 8, 2017.
Orientation Day Dress Code
Please note that the dress code for all orientation events unless otherwise informed, will be as follows:
Students must dress in professional attire.
- Professional attire for men includes trousers, shirt, socks, shoes, and a necktie.
- Professional attire for women includes dresses or skirts of appropriate length (must touch the knee) or pants, blouses, and shoes. Cocktail/formal dresses, anything revealing or low cut is unacceptable for students and all attendees.
Students may not wear the following:
- Miniskirts (higher than the knee)
- Blue Jeans
- See-through clothing, halter tops, and tube tops
- Sandals or sneakers
- Tee-shirts as an outer shirt
- Jogging or exercise clothes
Guests may dress in business casual.
Driving directions from Nova Southeastern University to the Holiday Inn.
Summer 2017 Booklist
Students are responsible to obtain the textbooks and materials listed on the Summer 2017 Booklist. Please check back in late March for the book list.
PA Diagnostic Equipment List
Students in the Physician Assistant Program will be required to have their own diagnostic equipment in order to perform physical examinations. An equipment fair may be held during the first week of class and you will receive information about the equipment available from Welch Allyn, but the PA Diagnostic Equipment List will let you know what you will need. You are advised to wait to purchase your equipment at the equipment fair. However, if you choose to purchase your equipment prior to orientation, please be advised that the diagnostic kit must be a full kit, not a pocket kit (including both the otoscope and ophthalmoscope) and the stethoscope must be a cardiology grade stethoscope.
