Dr. Whitaker joined the Nova Southeastern Jacksonville Physician Assistant Program in October 2012 as an Assistant Professor and Program Director.

Dr. Whitaker graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Physician Assistant studies from Kettering College of Medical Arts in 1997. He went on to earn a Master of Science degree in Clinical Leadership with a concentration in Practice Management and Research from The George Washington University in 2004 and was conferred his Doctorate in Health Science from Nova Southeastern University in 2014. Prior to joining the faculty at Nova Southeastern, he was an Assistant Professor in the University of Alabama at Birmingham's (UAB) Surgical Physician Assistant program culminating as the program's Academic Coordinator.

Dr. Whitaker has worked extensively in medical simulation as a teaching methodology. While at UAB, he developed and implemented a course for Physician Assistant students utilizing medical simulation as the core teaching method to help ready students for their clinical year. His background in simulation has afforded many interprofessional educational opportunities.

Clinically, Dr. Whitaker has practiced in Vascular and Interventional Radiology as well as in Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition. While at UAB, he practiced in Vascular and Interventional Radiology. His prior clinical background includes private practice Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition in southwest Florida. Before moving into private practice he worked in Radiology as well as Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at the University of Florida. He had been a certified Radiologic Technologist prior to his Physician Assistant career and continues to maintain this certification.

Dr. Whitaker has served as clinical preceptor for many students aspiring to become Physician Assistants, Physician Assistant students, medical students, medical and radiology residents, as well as interventional radiology fellows throughout his career.

In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, kayaking, and hiking.
